Ashoka’s Youth VentureBootstrapping an incubator to support high school social entrepreneurs and their parents
Ashoka, a multinational nonprofit that identifies and funds social entrepreneurs, wanted to launch an social venture incubator for high schoolers. I was brought in to oversee global recruitment, design all creative assets, and scale out partner universities that would host the program.
The Catapult landing page needed to be bold, but inviting. We discovered that high school aged students (and their parents) both identified with and aspired to lofty goals. The landing page’s central messaging was build to empower the viewer and entice them to self-identify as a prospective applicant almost immediately.
High school counselors were a key component to the initiative’s recruitment strategy. Attachable PDF and mailable booklets were designed to quickly inform, engage, and motivate both high school counselors and students to learn more.
Following this campaign, Catapult enrolled over 150 youth from 30 states and 4 countries to develop and scale student-lead enterprises. The enterprises have generated over $1,000,000 in revenue so far. It’s been held at the Harvard University, Stanford University, University of Chicago, and University of Pennsylvania.
